Coaches: Luke Loucks has helped guide FSU from an 0-5 deficit in ACC play to 10 conference wins in year 1. Mark Madsen is 48-48 at Cal, but this is by far his best season after the Bears went 13-19 (in the Pac-12) in 2023-24 and then 14-19 in year 1 in the ACC in 2024-25.

Streaks: FSU has won three straight games and is 10-3 in its last 13 games. Cal lost at Wake on Saturday. The Bears went 5-4 in February and March.

Notable wins / losses: FSU defeated Cal 63-61 in Tallahassee on Jan. 28. … Six of Cal’s 10 losses were on the road. … Cal’s best wins have come over No. 28 UCLA in November, over No. 30 UNC at home on Jan. 17, at No. 29 Miami on Jan. 31 and over SMU on Feb. 25. … FSU faced 15 teams in KenPom’s top 60 this season. … The Seminoles suffered early losses to KenPom No. 4 Florida, No. 35 Texas A&M, No. 31 Georgia, No. 6 Houston, No. 30 North Carolina, No. 1 Duke and No. 37 NC State. But since the win at No. 29 Miami, the Seminoles have enjoyed wins over No. 59 Stanford, No. 56 Virginia Tech, No. 38 Clemson and No. 43 SMU. There was also FSU’s narrow home loss to No. 20 Virginia, 61-58, on Feb. 10 and the loss in round 2 to Miami.

Of note: Cal simply isn’t very efficient inside the arc, making just 43.4 percent of its baskets (320th in DI). The Bears are making 34.8 percent of their 3-point shots. … By contrast, FSU makes 54.4 percent of its 2-point attempts (81st in DI) and is shooting 32.5 percent (254th) from 3-point range.

FSU stats: Guard Robert McCray V (third team) was named to the All-ACC team on Monday. McCray V has averaged 18.4 points during FSU’s 13-game run when the team went 10-3. … Chauncey Wiggins averages 14.1 points in league games, including a season-best 31 points vs. SMU. … Lajae Jones averaged 12.4 points and 6.6 assists in ACC games.

Cal stats: Guard Dai Dai Ames (third team) and Justin Pippen (honorable mention) were named to All-ACC team. … Ames averages 16.9 points. Pippen averages 14.2 points. Scottie Pippen’s son had 19 points and eight rebounds vs. FSU in January. … Forwards John Camden (13.9 points, 4.8 rebounds) and Chris Bell (13.3 points, 2.5 rebounds) lead a balanced Cal attack.
