Florida State received a second straight stellar start and has taken the series at Wake Forest.
Trey Beard tossed 6.2 shutout innings, striking out a career-best 14 hitters, as FSU shut down Wake Forest 2-0 on Saturday. The left-hander allowed just one hit and one walk.
John Abraham shut the door with 2.1 scoreless innings, walking one and striking out two hitters. The right-hander did not allow a hit.
FSU opened the series with Wes Mendes’ seven-inning shutout in a 10-0 run-rule victory over Wake. Now, the Seminoles have enjoyed 16 shutout innings.
Neither team had a hit through four innings, and it was quite the pitching dual between Beard and Chris Levonas. The Wake right-hander gave up just two hits and one earned run with 10 strikeouts in six innings.
His only mistake? Nathan Cmeyla’s opposite-field home run in the fifth to put FSU on the board.
Eli Putnam went 2 for 3 with an RBI single in the ninth.
JD Stein had Wake’s only hit, a double in the sixth. He advanced to third on a wild pitch but Javar Williams struck out and Kade Lewis grounded out to end the inning.
