After gaining some commitments on the recruiting trail earlier in the week, Florida State is beginning to lose some highly valued commitments from its class.
Three-star DL Tico Crittendon and three-star DB Tedarius Hughes decommitted earlier in the week. Hughes flipped to Syracuse, and Crittendon is undergoing a second recruitment of sorts.
The losses piled even further as composite four-star defensive back Jay Timmons flipped his commitment from Florida State to Ohio State on Thursday afternoon.
Timmons had flipped from Indiana to Florida State following a summer official visit. The son of former Florida State linebacker Lawrence Timmons, Jay was offered by Florida State officially after an impressive outing at an Elite Camp in June. That offer resulted in the subsequent official visit and commitment.
Ohio State offered Timmons on Sept. 16 and, while the offer was well received, there was no immediate plans to visit the Buckeyes as Florida State was off to a 3-0 start. As the season began to turn for Florida State, Timmons took a visit to Penn State and ultimately an official visit to Ohio State on November 1st.
A decision was expected to come soon after that visit and it was a decision that went against Norvell and the Seminoles.
A composite four-star prospect, Timmons is ranked as the No. 136 ranked prospect in the country and the No. 17 ranked cornerback per the 247sports composite.
With the departure of Timmons, Florida State is down to 25 commitments in the 2026 class and has the 13th (247) and 14th (On3) ranked class in the county.
Only three-stars Sean Johnson and Darryl Bell and five-star Chauncey Kennon remain in the Seminoles’ defensive back class.
