Kate Ockene was resilient, making nine saves.
Florida State’s attack, inconsistent on the night, delivered the clutch shot late.
Wrianna Hudson scored in the 87th minute and the Seminoles took a 1-0 victory over Stanford in the national championship game on Monday night. Hudson found the back of the net off a deflection as she scored for the second time in four days in the College Cup, following up the sophomore’s goal in the 1-0 win over TCU on Friday.
The Seminoles had just two shots on goal, but Hudson scored in a hard-fought and physical championship match.
“Amazing, amazing. So proud of our team. So resilient,” FSU coach Brian Pensky said in the postgame interview. “We weathered the storm in the second half. Our energy was amazing. We found a way to get a goal.”
Looking on as the Seminoles celebrated on the field, Pensky said: “Their elation right there — that says it all.”
Ockene was resilient in making save after save, diving side to side and elevating to punch shots over the net, too. For a freshman in the spotlight, Ockene’s play was brilliant — as it has been throughout the NCAA Tournament.
“She’s a little animal,” Pensky said. “She’s the MVP of this match. She kept us in this match. That’s what great goalkeepers have to do.”
Ockene now has four shutouts in the NCAA Tournament.
Hudson also has 15 goals in 2025.
FSU (16-2-4) won its fifth national title and captured its second championship under Pensky, who also guided the Seminoles to a title in 2023.
Two years ago, FSU also defeated Stanford in the national title game. FSU also avenged a 2-1 loss to Stanford on Oct. 16 in Tallahassee.
The Seminoles also won national titles in 2014, 2018 and 2021.
