JACKSONVILLE — The wind and the rain were persistent, with gusts blowing in and preventing Florida State and Florida from producing that many hits let alone runs.

Ethan Surowiec tripled and scored in the second inning and had an RBI single in the seventh inning for Florida in a 5-0 victory over Florida State on Tuesday night before a crowd of about 7,600 at VyStar Ballpark.

The Seminoles (19-5) struck out 16 times — just two weeks after whiffing 18 times in the loss to UF at Gainesville. FSU had only a few opportunities with runners on base, managing just four hits.

John Stuetzer had a double to lead off the fifth, but he was caught trying to extend the play to a triple.

Kelvyn Paulino Jr. had a shallow fly ball that was caught in the wind and developed into a two-out triple. Florida elected to walk Myles Bailey, and Nathan Cmeyla grounded into a fielder’s choice.

Bailey walked to lead off the ninth, with Noah Sheffield moving him over on a wind-aided bloop single. A wild pitch advanced the unners into scoring position, but Hunter Carns struck out on a check swing to end the game.

Cooper Whited (1-1) earned the start and pitched 3.2 innings. The left-hander had four strikeouts and scattered three hits with no walks. He allowed just the run in the second inning, although the inning was prolonged by a Putnam throwing error.

Cole Stokes recorded a strikeout with bases loaded to end the fifth but gave up four runs in the seventh inning.

Russell Sandefer (four strikeouts), Luke McNeillie (six strikeouts) and Jackson Barberi (six strikeouts) combined to shut out FSU.

Florida (19-6) was coming off a weekend sweep at Alabama. But the Gators won the second game of the three-city series, following up a 6-3 victory in Gainesville on March 10. FSU plays host to Florida on April 7 at 7 p.m. (ESPN2).
