Warrick Dunn's charity, Homes for the Holidays, held its annual a golf tournament last week in Atlanta to raise funds for the foundation. It's a great opportunity to fundraise but also share an update on what Dunn's foundation has accomplished.
Some of the notable stats for Dunn are his rushing yards (3,959), rushing touchdowns (37), receiving yards (1,314) and receiving touchdowns (12). Dunn helped Florida State to a national title as a freshman in 1993, averaging 7.5 yards per carry with four touchdowns. He also enjoyed three straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons from 1994-96.
But one of our favorite stats with Dunn: 252. Warrick Dunn Charities has helped 252 single-parent families become homeowners and sustain those homes by providing down payment assistance and working with corporate sponsors to furnish homes, stock the pantry and refrigerator and more.
In 2023, on a day when two homes were turned over to owners, the Osceola was among the news outlets in Tallahassee who saw the joy on the faces of parents as well as boys and girls who opened the door to their new bedroom. With help from local Habitat for Humanity groups, as well as corporate sponsors and non-profits, the homes were turn key — from laptop computers to push lawnmowers.
Dunn's foundation has impacted 687 children in 16 states. The foundation also works to promote financial literacy, health and wellness education and scholarships.
While all are important, a roof over the heads of a mom or dad and their kids has been life changing. And Dunn's charity keeps on running at a pace of 10-15 homes annually.
