Tyler Weaver finished in second place with a final-round 70 on Tuesday to help Florida State win the Seminole Intercollegiate by 20 shots.

Weaver sank an eagle putt on No. 6 at the Seminole Legacy Course that he estimated at 110 feet in what he said was “the best putt I’ve ever hit in my life.” He carded some remarkable scores on the par-5s, with a birdie on the 4th, an eagle on the 6th and a birdie on the 11th. Weaver did have a bogey on the 13th and a bogey on the 17th.

He opened with a 72 on Sunday and then shot a 68 in the second round, which was split between Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon as rain impacted play in the morning.

“It was very challenging, obviously being cold as well,” Weaver said. “The holes are playing very long. The greens somehow after the rain were very firm.

“It’s good for us to know we can battle the elements and play good golf in any kind of weather. We had three different days out there this week. it’s good for us to come out on top.”

The FSU junior fell short of individual champion Anders Larson, an Eastern Kentucky senior who shot a final-round 66 to win by one stroke.

FSU placed five golfers in the top 15. After Weaver (6-under 210), Carson Brewer (215) tied for fifth, Wilmer Edero (216) tied for seventh, Jack Bigham (218) tied for 11th and Jack Whaley (219) tied for 14.

The Seminoles finished at 4-under 856 in the three-day event, winning comfortably over Southern Miss (12-over 876) and Stetson (17-over 881).

Golfers battled windy conditions in the third round as play wrapped up for the 21-team field.

“Golf is hard and you don’t get to win a lot,” FSU coach Trey Jones said. “… When you do win, you need to enjoy it. We’ll enjoy it briefly and then get ready for the Floridian. But really proud of them, the way they played together.”

FSU plays at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at the Floridian Golf Club in Palm Bay next week.
