Florida State lost another member of it’s defensive back class on Friday night, as long-time commitment and three-star safety Sean Johnson flipped his commitment to Maryland.
The Severn (Md.) Archbishop Spalding product had been committed to Florida State since April, but has instead opted to sign closer to home. The three-star visited Maryland last week on a visit according to 247sports and thus made his decision to stay in state.
A composite three-star prospect, Johnson is ranked as the No. 600 prospect in the country and the No. 46 ranked cornerback. Johnson was first identified and recruited by Florida State safeties coach Evan Cooper, who brought Johnson on a visit in the spring and ultimately committed.
Johnson later ‘shut down’ his recruitment following his official visit to Florida State - yet now will sign with the Terapins.
With the loss of Johnson, Florida State now has fallen to the 15th ranked class on 247sports while still holding at 14th on the On3 industry rankings. There are 27 commitments in Mike Norvell’s 2026 recruiting class just a few days away from the early signing period.
Only Chauncey Kennon, Jordan Crutchfield and Darryl ‘Tre’ Bell remain of FSU’s defensive back class.
