A building block for the Florida State men's basketball team announced he would return for the 2026-27 season.
Thomas Bassong, who started in the second half of his freshman season, declared that he would be back with the Seminoles in a social media post on Wednesday. Bassong averaged 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds, but also showed he was a capable scorer and rebounder in a win at Georgia Tech on Feb. 28 when he had 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The 6-foot-8, 205-pound Bassong is athletic and with a long wingspan is a good defender, which earned him 17 starts in his first college season.
Bassong is the first FSU player to announce his return. Martin Somerville, Cam Miles and Alier Maluk are among the players that have announced their intention to enter the transfer portal, which opened up on Tuesday.
More than 1,600 men's basketball players entered the transfer portal on day 1, according to reports. Players have until April 21 to announce they are entering the portal, but can still take visits to schools after that date.
FSU is expected to be active in the transfer portal, with coach Luke Loucks stating the team would likely add 3-5 transfers.
