The No. 6 Florida State softball team (8-2) fell to No. 3 Tennessee 9-1 on Sunday afternoon in the Seminoles’ final game of the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational.

Tennessee (10-0) got on the board first as the first two batters of the game reached and a one-out three-run homer put them up 3-0.

Isa Torres led off the bottom of the first with a leadoff single, but the Seminoles stranded her at second. Makenna Reid put up a zero in the top of the second, and the Seminoles’ offense got going as Anna Hinde hit an infield single. Makenna Sturgis singled to shallow left field, and Bella Ruggiero was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Torres. Torres was hit by a pitch to bring home Hinde, but that was all the Noles would get.

Tennessee responded with four two-out runs in the top of the third to extend its lead to 7-1. Marlee Gaskell held the Lady Vols in check with three consecutive scoreless innings, but Tennessee hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to extend its lead.

FSU went 2-2 at Clearwater, including a win over top-10 UCLA on Saturday night.
