Florida State couldn’t have asked for a better first four innings: The Seminoles scored three runs in the third and Wes Mendes didn’t allow a hit.
But the no-hitter and the lead slipped away in the fifth, as Stanford scored four runs and took a 4-3 win over No. 8 FSU in game 1 of the weekend series on Friday night.
Chase Williams had a two-run double and Hunter Carns added an RBI single for FSU (29-12, 12-7) in the third.
Brody DeLamielleure went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles. DeLamielleure played right field with John Stuetzer missing the game due to a cut on his left hand.
But FSU struggled to string hits together. With runners in scoring position, FSU was just 2 for 11 (.182).
Brayden Dowd went 0 for 3 with a walk, playing a few days after he left the game at North Florida with an undisclosed injury.
Mendes (7-3) cruised through four-plus innings but gave up four earned runs in the fifth. He allowed four hits, three walks and hit a batter while finishing with five strikeouts.
Luke Lavin had a ground-rule double that scored two runs and Eric Jeon later followed with a two-out, two-run single for Stanford.
Chris Knier tossed two shutout innings, striking out three.
FSU has won five of six ACC series this season. Georgia Tech swept FSU two weeks ago in Atlanta.
