Florida State coach Mike Norvell gave his first impressions on scrimmage No. 1 on Tuesday night. This was the Seminoles’ first time in full pads. He said FSU ran 70-80 plays. Below are a few of his thoughts:

The team did some situational work, focusing on reps with the offense vs. the defense inside the 10-yard line.

On Ashton Daniels, Norvell said: “He's got a lot of confidence in what we're asking him to do. There's a lot of things as we're progressing vs. different coverages, different looks. Making sure that receivers, the timing, everything, being on the same page just with that repetition. So I thought he's done a really, really good job. You feel his command, his control, where to go with the football.

“From where we left in spring to where he's been in the six days, and even some of the decisions that he had tonight, you can just feel that command and some really nice throws on third down, where he's able to place the football, it's been really good.”

When asked about a few standouts on each side of the ball, the first name on offense was Ousmane Kromah. “Ousmane’s been exceptional throughout this camp. You see and feel his growth. Just all in all things of where he's developing. We've got a really good running back room, and I think Sam (Singleton), Tre (Wisner), it's fun watching them and just the different ways they're going to be able to impact our football team.”

The first name he mentioned on defense was Ashlynd Barker, who moves from boundary safety to rover in 2026. “Had a couple great plays tonight. He's playing the rover position, that's really a position that suits him so very well. Last year playing boundary safety. Now, having the full, running the field. I think his leadership, his mentality, it's been outstanding.

On the defense, Norvell said: “I really like the things I'm seeing from our defensive line and just the explosiveness that they're showing.” There was again praise for the linebackers, notably Chris Jones.

On the special teams

Norvell mentions FSU has focused on punt returners. He said Jasen Lopez, Devin Carter, Duce Robinson and Jayvan Boggs have worked there. It sounds like FSU feels good about the kick return options with Singleton and Micahi Danzy.

Coming up

Offensive coordinator Tim Harris Jr. and defensive coordinator Tony White will meet with the media on Wednesday before the team travels to Jacksonville for practices at the University of North Florida.

FSU is scheduled to practice in Jacksonville on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Scrimmage No. 2 will be Sunday night inside Doak.
