Robert McCray V drove the lane, drawing a foul with 1.7 seconds to go, as the Florida State men’s basketball team defeated Miami 65-63 for the Seminoles’ first ACC win.

Playing for the first time since he had 11 turnovers in a home loss to Wake Forest, McCray had just three turnovers in 31 minutes. It wasn’t his best night from the floor, but McCray did a little bit of everything to help FSU win.

McCray had 20 points on 7 of 17 shooting with four rebounds, four assists and three blocks as FSU (8-11, 1-5 ACC) snapped a five-game slide.

“I'm really proud of our locker room,” FSU coach Luke Loucks said. “The way this season has gone has been challenging, to say the least. ... And finally we got the result that we wanted. I've tried to maintain a focus of process over results because I know that those processes, the foundation we lay will eventually pay off in a big way and those results come.”

FSU is now 12-1 since the 2019-20 season against Miami.

Freshman Thomas Bassong added eight points and six rebounds in a season-best 30 minutes.

Chauncey Wiggins had 10 points, and Lajae Jones had nine rebounds.

FSU held one of Miami’s top players, Trey Donaldson, to 11 points on 5 of 14 from the field (as well as 1 of 4 from 3-point range).

The Seminoles shot 24 of 53 (45.3 percent) from the floor and 6 of 17 (35.3 percent) from 3-point range.

Miami shot 24 of 57 (42.1 percent) from the floor and 4 of 16 (25 percent) from 3-point range.

“We just won a game 65-63 and it was a complete defensive performance,” Loucks said.

KenPom gave FSU just an 11 percent chance to pull off the upset on the road. But the Seminoles were efficient from the floor and had 12 steals. Martin Somerville led FSU with four steals.
