Coaches: Luke Loucks is trying to make a late push in FSU’s final seven games. Mike Young is in 122-73 in seven seasons at Virginia Tech, and they are seeking a strong finish and to make an argument that the Hokies could sneak in the NCAA Tournament.
Streaks: FSU lost a late lead and fell to Virginia on Tuesday, but the Seminoles have won four of their last six games. Va. Tech is coming off its best win, over KenPom No. 32 Clemson on Wednesday.
Notable wins / losses: FSU has played 10 of KenPom’s top-50 teams this season, underscoring how tough the schedule has been. The Seminoles’ only win in those games came at No. 41 Miami, although there have been some narrow losses. … Va. Tech is coming off one of its best wins, over Clemson on the road (76-66 on Wednesday).
Of note: The Seminoles have just two road victories this season, at Miami and Notre Dame. … FSU had one of its worst 3-point shooting nights against Virginia and the Seminoles are now making just 31.1 percent of their shots from beyond the arc in 2025-26 (that’s 316th in Division I). … The story is different on 2-point baskets, with FSU making 53 percent (131st in Division I). … KenPom projects that Va. Tech will finish with 20 wins, including by eight points over FSU. … Va. Tech is 4-2 at home in ACC play, including wins over Georgia Tech and California as well as a loss to Duke.
FSU stats: Robert McCray V is averaging 15.9 points in ACC games, while Chauncey Wiggins is averaging 12.9 points in league games. … Wiggins needs to get back on track after scoring just two points in a 1-of-6 night against Clemson. … Lajae Jones has scored in double figures in seven of FSU’s 11 ACC games. … Martin Somerville has been a leader on the team, but he’s in a 2-for-19 slump in his last three games (including 2 of 14 from 3-point range).
Va. Tech stats: The Hokies live on the 3-pointer. They are roughly average on 2-point shots (51.7 percent, 182nd in DI) but 3-point shooting (34.8 percent, 120th) is a strength. … Jaden Schutt (41.9 percent) is Va. Tech’s top 3-point shooter, making 57 from beyond the arc. But Jailen Bedford (41 made 3s), Neoklis Avdalas (34) and Ben Hammond (30) are also capable shooters. Hammond makes 39.5 percent of his shots from 3-point range.
