Coaches: Luke Loucks is 13-13 in year 1 at FSU, but it’s a season in which the Seminoles have improved over the last month. Brad Brownell is 20-7 in his 16th season at Clemson, where he is 312-203.
Streaks: FSU has won two straight games after rallying from a 14-point deficit in the second half. The Seminoles are 6-2 in the last month. Clemson has lost three straight, all by double figures, including at Wake Forest (85-77) on Wednesday.
Notable wins / losses: FSU’s best wins are at No. 40 Miami and at No. 59 Virginia Tech. Clemson’s three latest losses are to No. 59 Va. Tech at home as well as 67-54 at No. 2 Duke and 85-77 at No. 69 Wake Forest.
Of note: Clemson has won six straight in the series. … FSU has played 15 teams that are in the top 75 of KenPom’s rankings, with just four wins. But all of them have come in the last month. … KenPom oddly projects Clemson to win by 10 despite FSU’s hot streak and the Tigers’ struggles. … Clemson has impressive height among its rotational players, which should challenge FSU. The Tigers are a very good defensive rebounding team.
FSU stats: This is a homecoming for Chauncey Wiggins, who was a reserve for Clemson in the previous three seasons. Wiggins is averaging 13.2 points and 3.5 rebounds, while shooting 41.1 percent from 3-point range in FSU’s 13 league games. … Robert McCray leads FSU in scoring (16.8) in ACC games, and he’s scored in double figures in each league game. … In Lajae Jones’ last five games, he’s averaging 15.4 points and 7.8 rebounds.
Clemson stats: The Tigers are very efficient inside the arc, shooting 55 percent (64th in Division I), although they are shooting just 34.1 percent from beyond the arc (175th). … RJ Godfrey (6-7, 240) leads Clemson in scoring (11.4) and is second in rebounding (5.1). He shoots 64.5 percent from the floor. … Carter Welling (6-11, 240) is second in scoring (10.6) and second in rebounding (5.7) … Jestin Porter (9.9 points) and Nick Davidson (9.5 points) also are part of a balanced offensive attack … Davidson (6-10, 235), Dillon Hunter (6-3, 195) and Jake Wahlin (6-10, 210) each shoot 37 percent or better from 3-point range.
