The 55-year-old Davis has led UNC to the national title game and an ACC regular-season title in 2023-24. He is 113-46 as UNC’s head coach, and he previously was an assistant coach under Roy Williams (2012-21). Loucks and Davis are both coaching at their alma maters.

Streaks: FSU has won two straight games, including an 87-63 victory over Jacksonville University on Dec. 22. UNC has won six straight games.

Notable wins / losses: UNC has had an excellent start to the season. The Tar Heels have defeated Kansas (87-74), Kentucky (67-64) and Ohio State (71-70), all of which are viewed by KenPom as among the top 35 teams in the nation. UNC’s only loss was to Michigan State (74-58) at a neutral site. FSU’s best win is over No. 199 Tennessee Martin in mid-November. The Seminoles also have a narrow road loss at No. 12 Florida (78-76) on Nov. 11.

Of note: The Tar Heels win with a pair of big men (Caleb Wilson is 6-10 and Henri Veesaar is 7-foot) and they make 57.8 percent of their shots from inside the arc. It’s a tough matchup for FSU, which has a stretch-4 in Chauncey Wiggins and a power forward in Alex Steen. But the Seminoles have struggled to defend in the post.

FSU stats: Robert McCray leads FSU in scoring (13.5) and assists (7.1). Chauncey Wiggins averages 12 points. Alex Steen averages 7.3 points and leads the team in rebounding (6.7). Martin Somerville has scored in double figures in three of the last four games, averaging 13.8 in that stretch. He leads FSU in 3-point shooting (40.5 percent).

UNC stats: 6-foot-10 Caleb Wilson is UNC’s leading scorer (19.6) and rebounder (10.8), shooting 55.4 percent from the floor. 7-foot Henri Veesaar (16.8 points, 9.2 rebounds) is also shooting 64.1 percent from the floor. Luke Bogavac (11.1 points) shoots 41 percent from 3-point range. Kyan Evans (5.8 points) leads UNC with 51 assists.

Quote: “I’m looking forward to continuing to compete against the best teams in the country,” McCray said. “Competing in the ACC and having the joy of playing with my teammates is what I have been focused on throughout this season.”
