Coaches: Luke Loucks is 6-6 in year 1 at FSU, his alma mater, after being an assistant coach, video coordinator and staffer with Phoenix, Golden State and Sacramento in the NBA. and records. Jordan Mincy has been JU’s head coach since 2021, going 74-64. He was previously a Florida assistant.

Streaks: FSU snapped a five-game slide with a win over Mississippi Valley State on Friday. JU has lost two straight games, including at Florida A&M 72-65 on Wednesday.

Notable wins / losses: FSU’s best win is over KenPom No. 203 Tennessee Martin (87-73) on Nov. 18 in Tallahassee. JU lost 86-69 at Miami to open the season. The Dolphins have split with Florida A&M. Their best win is over Bethune Cookman (69-64) on Nov. 24 in a neutral site game.

Of note: FSU general manager / assistant coach Michael Fly was JU’s associate head coach for two seasons (2023-25). … Robert McCray started at Jacksonville the last two seasons before transferring to FSU for his senior season. … AJ Swinton had six points and four rebounds in 19 minutes vs. Mississippi Valley State. The sophomore is earning more playing time of late after an early November suspension.

FSU stats: Robert McCray (14.3 points), Lajae Jones (11.8 points), Chauncey Wiggins (11.6 points and Kobe MaGee (11 points) lead the Seminoles. McCray has scored in double figures in all but two of FSU’s games. Martin Somerville has made 39.1 percent of his 3-point shots. Alex Steen had nine rebounds vs. Mississippi Valley State and leads FSU with 6.5 rebounds. Steen was one off his season high (10 vs. Cal State Bakersfield on Nov. 25).

JU stats: The Dolphins are led by 6-6 forward Chris Arias (10.7 points) and 6-foot guard Jaylen Jones (10.3 points). They shoot just 48.4 percent inside the arc and 32.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Quotable: “Building a program is challenging and it's tough. You have to have patience. I don't have a lot of patience. You have to have a vision for what you're doing regardless of the bumps in the road,” Loucks said after the win on Friday. “… But there is a belief within these walls of what we're doing and where we're going. It's just going to take some time.”
