Florida State held its second scrimmage on Sunday night, beginning indoors due to lightning in the area. Coach Mike Norvell said the team did six or seven series indoors before making the transition back to Doak Campbell Stadium.

Norvell said the Seminoles got about 100 plays in.

"I thought we came out with a great deal of energy,” Norvell said. “It was a physical scrimmage throughout.”

Aside from the approximately 10 plays on Tuesday night when FSU was working inside Doak, Sunday’s time in the stadium is the first significant chunk of time the Seminoles have been on the field inside the stadium — and for the coaches to work on sideline-to-booth communication. The coaching staff has been reluctant to say who will be on the sideline and who will be in the booth, although offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has said he has been on the sideline throughout his career.

Norvell led off by discussing Jeremiah Wilson’s interception of Tommy Castellanos. “Jerry made a great play on the pick,” Norvell said. This is an interesting starting point for Norvell, who made a quip in Jacksonville about FSU not being PBU but being DBU.

While Castellanos had the early interception, Norvell noted the quarterback’s response. He mentioned a long touchdown throw to Squirrel White on “a great ball” from Castellanos.

Among the receivers, Norvell mentioned White and Micahi Danzy, who “had a couple of really nice plays.”

White has the right mindset and has been maximizing the opportunities, Norvell said.

When asked about the running backs, Norvell first discussed Ousmane Kromah. He said the freshman had a few touchdowns during red-zone work.

The team’s time at the UNF campus in Jacksonville was beneficial in terms of on-field work and continuing to build chemistry.

When asked about the team’s identity, Norvell said: “I see it as a very competitive team, and it’s something that we need it to be. … We’re 10 practices in, I like what these guys are bringing and the fight that they’re showing. But now we got to continue to build upon the efficiency, the execution.”

Norvell said defensive end Jaden Jones and offensive lineman Jacob Rizy each got some work in Sunday’s scrimmage.
