Myles Bailey had “successful surgery” on his ankle on Sunday but his season ends after suffering the injury on a slide into second base.

The sophomore had been one of the best hitters in baseball and arguably the one with the most power in the college game. He had 13 home runs but Bailey was being intentionally walked more and more and had a .582 on-base percentage.

FSU coach Link Jarrett visited with Bailey and his parents at the hospital on Saturday night after the game.

“Myles was concerned with one thing and that was the team and what we were going to do and how we were going to play and what was the lineup,” Jarrett said after Sunday’s game. “… You feel for what he now has to rehab through to get back to the form. And he will. The doctors said this is something you'll come back from.”

An FSU statement just after noon on Sunday indicated the injury was to Bailey’s leg. Jarrett confirmed postgame that the surgery was to the ankle, with doctors giving a preliminary estimate of 4-6 months for rehabilitation.

In 26 games, Bailey hit .363 with 13 home runs and 33 RBI but also 36 runs scored. He had more walks (35) than strikeouts (30) and had developed a more discerning eye at the plate in his sophomore season. A draft-eligible sophomore, Bailey has often been viewed as a top draft pick this summer and it’s plausible we’ve seen him play for the last time in an FSU uniform.

Bailey was also valued for his defense at first base, making just one error and bailing out FSU's infielders with his 6-foot-4 frame to grab high throws. On Sunday, FSU shifted Eli Putnam to first base. Putnam had played second this season for FSU, but he also played 14 games at second for Davidson in 2025.

Earlier in the day, Jarrett reflected on Bailey’s mindset and what he has meant to the program.

“I have not coached a player with a better combination of work ethic, character, and skill,” Jarrett said in a statement. “His application of work allowed Myles to develop into a spectacular player both offensively and at first base.

“He has amazing parents, who molded him into a wonderful young man. Our medical team was fully engaged from the moment he was injured. He will recover from this injury and return to his dynamic form."
