Mike Norvell said he’s “not ready” to name a starting quarterback as Florida State wrapped up spring practice on Wednesday morning.
Norvell praised aspects of improvement from Auburn transfer Ashton Daniels and redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry. With Daniels, he referenced his pocket presence, how he delivered passes and improvement in the vertical passing game. And with Sperry, he discussed the quarterback’s improvement from the start of spring to the end as he is in year 2 at FSU.
“We've seen a lot of things that get me excited about it being close to an announcement but also I've seen growth in the room, seeing growth in the way that they played,” Norvell said.
Daniels had 4,783 passing yards and 1,397 rushing yards with 35 touchdowns in three seasons at Stanford and 2025 at Auburn. He passed for a career-high 442 yards in Auburn’s loss at Vanderbilt.
Sperry completed 12 of 17 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns as a true freshman in 2025. He also had 27 rushing yards.
Norvell also referenced Malachi Marshall, the nation’s top junior college quarterback. Marshall will arrive at FSU this summer.
“His game was something that really got me excited,” Norvell said. “He's got superb arm talent.”
