Lajae Jones was coming off a game where he couldn't make a jumper, hitting just 2 of 9 shots. But on Friday he drilled 3s in bunches, including four early in the second half in one of the most impressive shooting nights by a Florida State player.

Jones made 10 of 21 3-pointers and scored a career-high 36 points as Florida State shook off a sluggish first half to pull away from Georgia Southern 98-72 on Friday. The senior transfer from St. Bonaventure set an FSU record for most 3s attempted, and he was just short of George McCloud's record 10 3's.

Late in the game, Jones attempted a few deep 3-pointers to try and break the record but was off the mark.

“I just wanted to get one or two more attempts to try to break it,” Jones said. “When I had seven or eight 3s, they told me I was two away.”

Jones' previous career best was 24 points against Duquesne in Feb. 2025. He made a career-best six 3s against Dayton in Jan. 2025. Jones said he scored 38 points in a game in his senior year of high school.

Chauncey Wiggins had 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for FSU (4-1). Wiggins missed the UT Martin game due to a minor injury, but he played 26 minutes.

“First career double-double, which is hard to fathom that he’s 6-foot-9 and only has one double-double in his career,” FSU coach Luke Loucks said.

FSU led by just three before using an 8-0 run late in the first half, sparked by Cam Miles' and Jones' 3-pointers, as FSU led 40-29 at the break.

The Seminoles made 17 of 49 shots from 3-point range, the fourth game they have made double-digit shots from beyond the arc this season. FSU made a season-high 18 against Alabama State.

Kobe MaGee had 12 points and five rebounds, and Alex Steen had nine points and six rebounds. Robert McCray V had eight points and a team-high seven assists.

FSU also had 11 steals, including three by Jones.
