Florida State’s defense will be shorthanded for Monday night’s game against SMU.
Defensive lineman Darryll Desir, linebacker Blake Nichelson and safety K.J. Kirkland are all listed as out on the Seminoles’ latest availability report, which was released pregame. Freshman defensive backs Jordan Crutchfield and Chuck Kennon are also out.
Desir started against New Mexico State, while Nichelson and Kirkland were used heavily in the rotation.

Being thin on depth could limit the Seminoles as they face SMU and quarterback Kevin Jennings, who has had back-to-back 3,000-yard passers.
Coach Mike Norvell had expressed optimism that FSU would get receiver Tae’Shaun Gelsey back for the second game. But the sophomore, who had impressed in camp, is also out.
