One of the best players in Florida State softball history and the 2026 ACC player of the year, shortstop Isa Torres announced on Monday that she’s entering the transfer portal.

Torres put together one of the most prolific seasons in FSU history this spring. She hit .530, which was a new FSU record, and will be top 15 mark in NCAA history. Torres broke the school record for slugging percentage (.978) and on-base percentage (.591) and recorded the second-most hits in school history with 98.

A native of Georgetown, Texas, Torres also slammed 16 home runs and drove in 56 RBI. Torres broke the NCAA record with 16 consecutive hits and reached base in 23 consecutive plate appearances, which was the third-longest streak in NCAA history. Defensively, Torres did not record an error in her first 164 chances this season. Torres ended the year with just two errors in 184 chances.

FSU coaches and administrators had been proactive in working on deals for Torres, sources told the Osceola. That included a front-loaded contract before the House-NCAA settlement became effective on July 1, 2025. And Torres earned a deal with Nike, which she promoted on her Instagram this spring. Torres also gifted Nike cleats to her FSU teammates before the regional.

The junior thanked everyone around FSU's program, from teammates to coaches and fans in a post on Twitter/X.

“This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make. After a great deal of thought, prayer, and conversations with my family, I have decided to enter the transfer portal and pursue the next chapter of my softball journey.

“Florida State has given me more than I could ever put into words. From the moment I arrived in Tallahassee, I was welcomed by incredible coaches, teammates, support staff, and fans who helped shape me not only as a player, but as a person. Coach Alameda and the entire coaching staff believed in me, challenged me, and helped me grow every day. My teammates became my family, and the memories we created together will stay with me forever.

“This decision is not about leaving something behind. It's about pursuing a new opportunity and embracing a new challenge. My respect, appreciation and love for Florida State remain unchanged.”
