The No. 8 Florida State softball team looked to remain perfect in ACC play when the Seminoles welcomed Cal Bears to JoAnne Graf Field for a weekend series.

The Seminoles have been red hot and have won 14 straight games heading into the series against the Bears. FSU completed a run-rule sweep of the Bears — 12 -2 on Friday, 9-0 on Saturday and 9-1 on Sunday — the first time they had accomplished that feat since doing the same against Pittsburgh in 2024.

“I’m really proud and happy for our freshmen,” FSU coach Lonni Alameda said. “It’s a grinder and you don’t know what the grinder is about and being able to stay in it. I think there's a lot of good marks and I'm just really proud of this group. I think everybody on this team can contribute at some point, so I think that’s what we found out.”

FSU is now 28-4 after back-to-back ACC sweeps, following up a dominating run against Syracuse last weekend.

On Friday, Isa Torres became the first player in NCAA history to record 14 hits on 14 consecutive at-bats. Torres also broke an FSU record of 18 consecutive plate appearances where she reached base safely. Since returning from a concussion suffered in the Alabama game, Torres has gone 27 for 30 (.900) with two home runs and 14 RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Jazzy Francik got the start in the circle on Friday night and pitched a complete game with two hits, two earned runs, including a two-run home run in the fourth inning and ended the day with four strikeouts. Florida State was up 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning and would explode with seven runs. The inning was highlighted by junior Ashtyn Danley when she cranked a three-run home run to make it 10-2 and sophomore Shelby McKenzie would add a two-run home run of her own to put the game on ice heading into the fifth inning in which the Seminoles would finish off the Bears to secure their first victory of the series.

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, FSU would not take it easy on the Bears as they would put up seven runs in the first inning. From then on it was smooth sailing for the Seminoles as they would cruise to victory. Freshman pitcher Bella Dimitrijevic got the start in the circle and pitched three innings, giving up zero runs and four strikeouts. Senior Makenna Reid would spell relief for Dimitrijevic for the last two innings and would give up zero runs and two strikeouts. A total of nine Seminoles would drive in one run each to show off their murderer's row of a batting order, something that Cal simply could not handle.

The Seminoles headed into Sunday looking for the sweep — and would they ever. Florida State would get most of its production from two freshmen, Marin Heller and Anna Hinde, who both hit home runs and would account for five RBIs. Heller’s home run was the first of her FSU career.

With the Seminoles mid week game against Texas Tech getting cancelled, FSU spent the day practicing and getting better.

“The load of practice has been one day during the week, so we got three so that was kind of nice,” FSU coach Lonni Alameda said. “Took an opportunity to be a little more team-oriented, get cuts and relays going, things that we can sharpen up that we haven't been able to do with the midweeks.”
