Florida State was able to spread playing time across its roster and shook off a sluggish start to take a 4-1 soccer exhibition win over Alabama on Friday night.
Lara Dantas, Jordynn Dudley and Ashlyn Anderson scored goals for FSU. The Seminoles opened the scoring in the 29th minute by peppering Alabama keeper Coralie Lallier with shots and Enasia Colon’s final blast deflected off a Crimson Tide defender for an own goal.
“Played a lot of players, which is great — it’s what you want,” FSU coach Brian Pensky said. “Every season, you roll the ball out for the first time and you’re like, ‘Here goes. What do we got?’ I think there are a lot of positive things and then a lot of video moments that we can learn from and move forward with heading into Florida next week.”
Dantas had a pretty goal around the right side of the Alabama wall off a free kick that bent back and slipped inside the near post and beyond a diving Lallier, giving FSU a 2-0 lead at the half.
Dudley hit a rocket from the left side, just outside the box as she extended FSU’s lead to 3-0. Anderson later added a goal.
Addie Todd (one save), Kate Ockene and Evan O’Steen (one save) each split time in goal for FSU. More than 20 Seminoles were able to get playing time on Friday in the Seminoles’ first and only exhibition of the 2025 season.
Pensky said he told the team that some players would only participate for 15 or 20 minutes but that it would be more than enough time to make an impression.
“This was an opportunity for everybody to play,” Pensky said. “And show us what they have and how they can help our team."
