The offensive coaches wanted to see if the Seminoles could run in the third spring scrimmage. Tim Harris Jr. felt Florida State’s offensive line and running backs were able to do just that and set a tone.

“Our focus going into the last scrimmage was to put the ball down and be able run the football at a high level,” said Harris Jr., FSU’s offensive coordinator. “I feel like that’s the key to playing really good offense is being able to control the line of scrimmage. Our guys knew before we walked on the field on Saturday that we’re going to put the ball down and we’re going to run the football. And we’re going to let that dictate what the defense does to allow us to do some other things.

“Our offensive line, they went out with the right mentality. And we were able to do that.”

Among the big questions this spring were two related to the ground attack: Can FSU’s line build cohesion up front and clear the way for the running backs? And can FSU’s running back room show it’s among the best and deepest groups on the 2026 team.

On a day in which coach Mike Norvell and Harris Jr. agreed was a very good one for the offense, the run game was a major reason for the efficiency. FSU’s running back room, from top to bottom, is arguably the deepest on the roster with Tre Wisner (a 1,000-yard rusher at Texas in 2024), Ousmane Kromah, Samuel Singleton Jr. and Amari Thomas.

Who starts is a question, but FSU’s coaches will use a heavy rotation at running back. It could be Wisner, whom Harris Jr. views as an every-down back that has improved as he soaked up the offense in the last few weeks of spring practice. It could be Singleton Jr., who “has taken a good jump in his game,” Harris Jr. said.

And it could be Kromah, who didn’t have spring practices in 2025 but is now showing he’s ready to take a step forward in year 2 at FSU. Kromah had a “couple of tough runs,” Norvell said after Saturday’s scrimmage.

“Ousmane has done a really good job,” Harris Jr. said. “You just watch him, how comfortable he is in the offense. Coach (Kam) Martin has done a really good job of just taking him. He’s done a lot of things off the field with him, just meeting with him, using our virtual reality room to help him get a better understanding of protections. And, Ous, you can see he plays with a lot more confidence.”
