Florida State played its worst first half of basketball, missing all 15 of its 3-pointers and turning it over eight times. The energy, and shooting, improved dramatically in the second half.

Chauncey Wiggins hit a deep 3-pointer coming out of halftime, finishing with 17 points and six rebounds, while Alex Steen scored 13 points and pulled down a season-best 10 rebounds in FSU's 89-59 win over Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday night.

“I feel like it was a couple games in the making,” Steen said of his first Division I double-double. “It was great. Just trying to stay relentless on those boards. That's kind of my role, be that guy that does the dirty work and really plays hard.”

Martin Somerville scored all 14 of his points in the second half, drilling four 3-pointers for FSU (5-1). Somerville was 4 of 8 from 3-point range, but the team finished just 8 of 32 (25 percent).

FSU led CS Bakersfield 35-24 at the half. After the 0 for 15 drought, the Seminoles were 5 of 10 to open the second half and doubled up the Roadrunners 62-36 early in the half.

Robert McCray V had 12 points and four assists, while Cam Miles had nine points and seven assists.

FSU forced 28 turnovers, 13 of which were steals, and scored 40 points off of those turnovers. The Seminoles’ 40 points off turnovers set a new season-high, besting the previous high of 33 against UT Martin on Nov. 18.

Lajae Jones hit 10 3-pointers in Friday's win, but he was 0 for 4 from beyond the arc and had just five points. Jones added six rebounds.
