The No. 10 Florida State softball team clinched a share of its 19th ACC Regular Season Championship on Saturday evening with an 8-0 win in six innings over Boston College.
FSU (45-8, 20-3 ACC) has won at least a share of nine out of the last 13 ACC Regular Season Championships.
For the second consecutive game, the Seminoles got a gem from their starting pitcher, this time from Ashtyn Danley. The left-hander threw a complete-game shutout and allowed just three hits while striking out a career-high 10 batters without any walks.
The Seminoles' offense got going right way in the top of the first as a walk from Jaysoni Beachum and a single from Danley put traffic on the base paths. Bella Ruggiero drove in the game’s first two runs with an RBI single to put the Seminoles up 2-0 after one.
After a scoreless second, Isa Torres reached on an error, and Beachum blasted her eighth home run of the year over the scoreboard to put the Seminoles up 4-0.
Shelby McKenzie drew a walk in the fourth inning, and Hayley Griggs smoked a home run to deep center to extend the lead to 6-0. Torres kept the rally going with a double to left, and Beachum picked up her fifth RBI of the series to put the Seminoles up seven.
Griggs picked up another hit with a single in the sixth, and Makenna Sturgis drove her home with a double down the left field line to put the Seminoles in run-rule territory. The Eagles got two out of their three hits in the sixth inning, but Danley struck out the final batter to complete the shutout.
Boston College dropped to 13-37, 3-20.
