There wasn’t anything wrong with the functionality of Florida State’s hitting and pitching building that’s down the right-field line at Dick Howser Stadium.
While there was a roof, it was often hot or cold depending on the time of year. And the Seminoles lacked photo and video technology to help hitters analyze their swings, although the pitching lab opened up before the 2025 season.
FSU coach Link Jarrett made remodeling the facility an offseason goal, with boosters fulfilling $1 million in funds on the renovations as well as new cameras and technology. It’s now an indoor space, with heat and air, and features Driveline technology to help hitters.
“That modification was the best upgrade to an existing footprint I have ever seen,” Jarrett said.
The weeks leading up to FSU baseball’s 2026 season have been chilly, so the warmer workplace is one the Seminoles have appreciated as they prepare for opening weekend against James Madison on Feb. 13-15.
“Especially with the temperature and how cold it’s been, it’s been easy to go in there and hit and not have to wear a bunch of layers and just be able to go hit and be comfortable,” sophomore first baseman Myles Bailey said.
There are cameras mounted up high and behind hitters but also ones on each side of the batter’s box, offering up various views. Flatscreen TVs show photos and data, allowing for quick review.
“Having the video, especially for me, is huge. I’m big on video and seeing the stuff I’m doing, to make sure I’m doing it right,” Bailey said. “And if I’m not doing it right, why am I not doing it right? Comparing the two has been real big for that.”
The level of detail from the photos has helped junior third baseman Cal Fisher see what adjustments he’s making in the box.
“You can see all different angles of your hands, feet, all the different stuff in the swing,” Fisher said. “… You go watch the video from all the different cameras, and you're like, ‘Ok, this makes more sense why I'm doing this. This is how to change it.’ Talk with the coaches, and then it just puts you in a better spot to succeed on the field.”
Jarrett joins the Front Row Noles / Seminole Sidelines on this week’s show, which will be on the Osceola’s YouTube channel on Wednesday afternoon.
