Safety Edwin Joseph and tailback Jaylin Lucas announced they will enter the transfer portal on Wednesday, the most significant departures for Florida State since the offseason began.

Joseph had 37 tackles, three interceptions (Virginia, Pittsburgh and Florida) and a forced fumble in his first year as a starter.

Lucas had 27 carries for 160 yards and 11 catches for 88 yards in 12 games, although his usage was sporadic. He had six carries for 22 yards and a 64-yard catch against Alabama but then didn’t have more than two carries against Power 4 opponents the rest of the season.

The 5-foot-9, 173-pound Lucas was a slippery back who impressed in the 2024 offseason but suffered a season-ending injury that limited him to just two games last fall. With three full college seasons behind him, Lucas would have a year of eligibility remaining at another school.

FSU has also lost four reserve players to the portal — linebacker Jayden Parrish, defensive linemen Tyeland Coleman and Jamorie Flagg — as players have announced their intentions following exit interviews. With the transfer portal opening up on Jan. 2, it’s likely there will be more additions as athletes go home for the holidays and talk with their families about their intentions for 2026.

The Seminoles have also dismissed cornerbacks coach Patrick Surtain, whose contract was set to expire in February 2026, and has hired Nick Williams to coach edges.
