Florida State kept stranding runners on base. Was it only a matter of time? As it turned out, a resounding yes in the Seminoles’ final two innings.

Nathan Cmeyla’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh broke open a tie game and gave FSU a 5-2 win over Jacksonville on Tuesday night. Brayden Dowd added a two-run homer to center field in the eighth inning, his eighth home run of the season.

The Seminoles (34-14) stranded 11 runners before the clutch, late-game hits. But Cmeyla’s hit brought home Brody DeLamielleure, who had a leadoff single, stole second and advanced to third on catcher Nick DeLisi’s throwing error.

Dowd’s home run brought in John Stuetzer, who also had a home run in the fifth inning. Hitting in the No. 2 spot, Dowd went 3 for 5 with two runs scored. DeLamielleure, hitting in the No. 3 spot, went 3 for 4 with a double.

It was a good result on a night when FSU stranded the bases loaded in the fourth and fifth innings. Still, FSU hit just .167 (2 for 12) with runners in scoring position.

FSU dropped all three of its midweek games to Florida but ran the table against the likes of JU, Stetson, North Florida and South Florida in its 2026 games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Cooper Whited started but went just 2.2 innings. He cruised through the first two innings before giving up a pair of runs in the third, the first one on a wild pitch.

After Cade O’Leary got just one of his four batters out, Brodie Purcell settled in for FSU through the middle innings. Purcell tossed three hitless innings, walking three but striking out four.

Cole Stokes (1-2) pitched a scoreless seventh. Kevin Mobil tossed a hitless eighth and ninth, striking out four and picking up his first save.
