Martay Barnes reclassified just eight days ago to give him the opportunity to play college basketball for the 2026-27 season.
And on Thursday, Barnes committed to Florida State over Auburn. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound shooting guard made the announcement on his Instagram.
“It feels like home," Barnes told 247Sports. “It was a major decision, for sure. Its a historic state, a powerhouse building, and it’s just lovely having my family around me. The way they brought us in, I felt a real vibe, and I fit the culture around there. It felt like the best fit for me.”
Barnes was considered the No. 49 prospect in the class of 2027, but he reclassified on Feb. 18. He plays at Orlando (Fla.) The Academy of Central Florida, and last summer averaged 13.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists for Austin Rivers Southeast Elite.
FSU has already landed four signees that will arrive this summer: Center Marcis Ponder, shooting guard Brandon Bass Jr., shooting guard Collin Paul and point guard Jasen Lopez. A two-sport star, Lopez has been practicing with the Seminoles for about six weeks since he enrolled early and also began working out with the football team.
The Seminoles’ class is ranked 11th by 247Sports and could rise when Barnes officially signs.
Barnes adds to a deep group that will be asked to contribute right away in coach Luke Loucks’ second season. Loucks went transfer-heavy for his initial season, and undoubtedly will dive back into the portal when it opens this spring, but this 2026 class will be the first that he’s been able to build relationships with and develop the players for the future.
FSU is 14-14 with three regular-season games to go in 2025-26 and will compete in the ACC Tournament in Charlotte, N.C., in March.
