Florida State’s top cornerback, Ja’Bril Rawls, announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on Tuesday. Rawls shared the news on his Instagram in a graphic created by On3.

One of FSU’s most improved defensive players in 2025, Rawls had 40 tackles and was an aggressive run defender in his third year on FSU’s campus (he was a redshirt sophomore last fall). Rawls had 11 tackles in the loss to Virginia and 10 tackles in the loss to Pittsburgh.

Limited to seven games due to injury, Rawls played 374 snaps and graded at 72.3 by Pro Football Focus.

Rawls was expected to be a building block in the secondary in 2026. But he now will be a highly sought transfer corner when the portal opens on Jan. 2. Another backup corner, Cai Bates, has also announced he will enter the portal.

FSU has not yet announced a cornerbacks coach after missing out on UCF assistant coach Brandon Harris, who has landed at Florida.

Among the notable pieces of the 2025 roster who have announced they will enter the portal are safety Edwin Joseph, running back Jaylin Lucas, Rawls and Bates.

FSU’s cornerback depth includes veterans like Shamar Arnoux, a rising sophomore, as well as Charles Lester III, a rising junior. Arnoux had 27 tackles in 11 games. Lester had four tackles in 10 games.

The Seminoles also signed four-star cornerback Chuck Kennon and three-star Jordan Crutchfield, who had three interceptions in Vero Beach’s state title game.

Davis announces he will transfer

Kam Davis also announced later in the afternoon that he was entering the portal. Davis was a longtime FSU commitment throughout his high school career in Albany, Ga.

After earning extensive playing time as a true freshman in 2024, Davis had just eight carries for 54 yards and a touchdown in three games this fall. He also had three catches for 46 yards.

FSU stocked up on running backs going into 2025, grabbing Gavin Sawchuk from the transfer portal (via Oklahoma) and Ousmane Kromah from Leesburg, Ga. Sawchuk led FSU’s tailbacks with 109 carries, 486 yards and eight touchdowns, followed by Kromah (72 carries, 408 yards) and Samuel Singleton Jr. (51 carries, 360 yards and four TDs).

Omar Graham Jr. intends to transfer

FSU is also losing veteran linebacker Omar Graham Jr., who had 38 tackles in 12 games in 2025. He played 318 snaps in the fall, starting five games.

Graham played in 39 games in four years at FSU. He made eight starts in 2024.
