Florida State battled on the road in search of its first ACC win. The defense wasn’t good enough.
Donnie Freeman scored 25 points and Syracuse shot 59.7 percent from the floor to take a 94-86 win over FSU on Tuesday night.
Kobe MaGee scored 20 points for FSU (7-10, 0-4 ACC), which played far better in its first game since a 44-point home loss to NC State on Saturday. He was 5 for 12 from the floor and 8 of 10 from the free-throw line.
But the Seminoles had nine of their 14 turnovers in the second half, and they shot just 3 of 13 from 3-point range in the final 20 minutes.
MaGee’s 20 points were the most he’s had in an ACC game and the fourth straight game he’s scored in double figures.
Martin Somerville shot 4 of 7 from 3-point range, finishing with 16 points, as FSU shot 10 of 27 from beyond the arc.
Robert McCray had 14 points, six assists and four rebounds but also seven turnovers.
Lajae Jones had 13 points and seven rebounds.
Thomas Bassong had seven points and three rebounds in the second start of the freshman’s season and first in ACC play.
Syracuse shot 67.9 percent (19 of 28) from the floor in the second half.
