Florida State landed a commitment from Indiana shortstop Cooper Malamazian on Monday afternoon.
Malamazian hit .301 with four home runs, 36 RBI and 33 runs scored. He had 59 hits and 27 walks. The sophomore had a 13-game hitting streak in April and wrapped up 2026 with an eight-game on-base streak. Malamazian had 14 errors this spring.
In two years at Indiana, Malamazian accumulated more than 100 hits. He was a Big Ten All-freshman team selection in 2025 after he hit .320 with 17 doubles, 40 RBI and 39 runs scored.
“The coaching staff is second to none and the development of infielders from Coach Jarrett was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” Malamazian told The Osceola. “The fans are amazing and the winning culture really caught my eyes. Super excited to win a lot of games in an amazing atmosphere.”
Malamazian was drafted in the 17th round in 2024 by Milwaukee. He is not draft eligible in July.
The addition of Malamazian solidifies shortstop for FSU in 2027. Gabe Fraser entered the transfer portal earlier this month.
FSU has been active in the transfer portal, adding Georgia outfielder Ty Peeples, left-hander Cayden Suchy, junior-college catcher Coy Clements and first baseman Jackson McKenzie.
