Florida State was able to close on one of its longtime defensive back targets on Sunday afternoon.

In a resounding win for Mike Norvell on the recruiting trail, Florida State secured a commitment from five-star defensive back Chauncey ‘Chuck’ Kennon. Ranked as a five-star prospect by 247sports and a four-star in 247’s composite rankings, Kennon is ranked as the No. 27 prospect in the country and the No. 2 defensive back in the country.

Florida State was considered the leader or amongst the leaders for much of Kennon’s recruitment, beating out Miami, Florida, Georgia, and LSU for the talented corner. Kennon took official visits to Georgia, Florida and Miami prior to his official visit to Florida State. Kennon did not attend his visit to LSU following the conclusion of his visit to Florida State.

Should Kennon sign with Florida State in December, he would be only the second five-star prospect to sign with Florida State during Mike Norvell’s tenure - the first being wide receiver Hykeem Williams as part of the 2023 class.

Kennon was a frequent visitor on campus throughout his recruitment, being on campus as many as seven times since being offered by the Seminoles in the spring of 2024. The five-star grew up a Florida State fan but that didn't mean that FSU didn't have competition for his services.

He joins a defensive back class that includes four-stars Jay Timmons, and three-stars Tedarius Hughes, Sean Johnson and Tre Bell.

With the addition of Kennon to the class, Florida State now holds 22 commitments in its 2026 recruiting class and possesses a fringe top-ten class in both the On3 industry rankings and 247 rankings.
