Florida State freshman Ethan Pritchard is improving but “there’s still a long journey ahead” in his recovery from a gunshot wound in late August, coach Mike Norvell said on Wednesday.
“Thank God he is progressing,” Norvell said. “I got a chance to go see him earlier this week. It’s truly a miracle some of the steps that we’re seeing.”
Norvell visited Pritchard earlier this week in the hospital. He said he appreciates thoughts and prayers from family, friends and the FSU community.
“I think prayer works,” Norvell said. “God’s working a miracle. I believe that. Continue to lift him up for all those who have. It’s definitely been a really good last week.
“There have definitely been some challenging days. There was a lot of uncertainty. Just grateful for the progress.”
Pritchard was shot the day after the Alabama game as he drove home his aunt and a 3-year-old to their apartment in Havana, Fla. He was “not doing anything wrong” when he was ambushed outside the apartment building.
Jayden Bodison, Caron Miller, Germany Atkins and an unnamed minor have been arrested in connection with the shooting, the FDLE announced on Sept. . Bodison, Miller and the juvenile were charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle. Atkins was charged with one count of probation violation.
Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young said authorities think Pritchard’s shooting was a case of mistaken identity.
