Florida State’s depth at safety thins out with the loss of Conrad Hussey, who is no longer with the football team as of Tuesday afternoon. A school spokesperson confirmed Hussey’s departure but did not offer up any additional details.
Coach Mike Norvell next speaks with the media after Wednesday’s practice.
Hussey had a breakout freshman season as he developed a quick reputation for forcing takeaways. But in 2024, Hussey had just 18 tackles in 10 games.
FSU is shifting to a 3-3-5 defensive scheme that will have multiple fronts but will also feature three safeties. Earl Little Jr. has often been viewed as one of those safeties, playing the rover position. Little Jr. is viewed as a leader in the defensive backfield and was invited by Norvell to the ACC Kickoff event in July.
K.J. Kirkland, Edwin Joseph and Shyheim Brown are viewed as veterans in the mix for the other two safety spots. Reserve Ashlynd Barker has also been praised by coaches in preseason camp.
