Florida State was seeking a sweep. The Seminoles will instead settle on a series win and a long break before the postseason begins.
FSU’s bats woke up late but couldn’t rally from a three-run deficit as Miami took a 7-4 win on Saturday afternoon.
With FSU leading 1-0 on Nathan Cmeyla’s solo home run in the second, the pitchers settled in with zeroes on the board going into the seventh — but there were plenty of fireworks in the final frames.
Gabriel Milano hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning off Bryson Moore, while Derek Williams and Alex Sosa added solo home runs off reliever Chris Knier in the eighth. Miami added three runs in the ninth, with Vance Sheahan and Jake Ogden recording RBI singles.
Hunter Carns’ RBI single in the eighth scored Brayden Dowd, who had reached on a walk and advanced to third on Brody DeLamielleure’s double. Cmeyla’s sacrifice fly scored DeLamielleure. Noah Sheffield added a solo home run in the ninth.
FSU (38-16, 19-11) finished just shy of 20 victories in ACC play but did earn an eighth weekend series win in league play. The Seminoles won their five ACC home series — NC State, Duke, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Miami (36-18, 15-15).
Bryson Moore pitched a season-best 7.2 innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. He had two strikeouts but did not allow a walk. His previous best was seven shutout innings in a win at Virginia, where he pitched in 2024 and ’25.
Moore, Wes Mendes and Trey Beard each pitched six or more innings in the three-game series. It was the first time the trio had done so on the same weekend in ACC play.
Cmeyla went 3 for 3, while Ben Barrett went 2 for 2 with a two-out double in the second inning. DeLamielleure extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a pair of hits.
The Seminoles’ bats were relatively quiet as they couldn’t move runners over let alone bring them home, hitting 2 for 10 with runners on base.
But the Seminoles stranded five runners on base, but there were missed opportunities. FSU left a runner on third base to end the fifth, and pinch runner Chase Williams was caught stealing at second base in the seventh inning.
