Florida State shortstop Alex Lodise was selected in the first round with the No. 60th overall pick by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday.
Lodise won the Dick Howser Trophy, which is presented to the nation’s top player. The junior was named the ACC’s player of the year and defensive player of the year, enjoying a breakout season at the plate while also committing just five errors in 58 games.
A native of St. Augustine, Lodise led FSU in a large number major hitting categories: batting average (.394), on-base percentage (.462), RBI (68), doubles (18) and triples (three). He also had 17 home runs (second to Myles Bailey and Max Williams, who each had 19). And Lodise had 62 runs scored, one short of Gage Harrelson’s team-leading 63. Lodise was FSU’s most consistent hitter, reaching base in nearly all of FSU’s 58 games. He had a hit in 48 games and recorded 31 multi-hit games.
Lodise had a walk-off grand slam to complete the cycle and give FSU a stunning win over Florida at Jacksonville in April.
He joined Buster Posey (2008) and J.D. Drew as FSU players to win the Howser Trophy, which has been presented annually since 1987.
Cam Leiter was selected by the LA Dodgers with the 65th overall pick (second round). His slot value is $1.35 million. Leiter did not pitch in 2025 after undergoing a procedure in November 2024.
Max Williams was picked by the Miami Marlins with the No. 78 overall pick (third round). His slot value is $1.04 million.
Jamie Arnold was selected by the Athletics in the first round with the No. 11 overall pick earlier Sunday.
