The No. 12 Florida State softball team defeated North Carolina 6-1 on Saturday afternoon, clinching the series over the Tar Heels. The Seminoles improved to 80-27 all-time against UNC.

Florida State (38-7, 14-3 ACC) leaned on a strong four innings in the circle from Bella Dimitrijevic (7-3) as the freshman allowed just two hits and one run in the circle, striking out four, just shy of her career high.

Ashtyn Danley took over in the fifth and closed things out with confidence, earning her third save of the season. She struck out four, allowed two hits, and did not give up a run.

Danley also made her presence felt at the plate, going 3 for 4 to tie her career high of hits, while Isa Torres added another multi-hit performance, going 2 for 3.

Torres wasted no time setting the tone. She led off the game with a home run to deep center field, her 11th of the season, giving Florida State an early spark. The Seminoles added to their lead in the first inning when redshirt freshman Bella Ruggiero lifted a sacrifice fly to score Jaysoni Beachum with the bases loaded, making the score 2-0 at the end of the first.

North Carolina (31-13, 9-11 ACC) responded in the top of the second on a solo home run from Emily LeGette, trimming the deficit to 2-1. The score held there for a few innings as both teams settled in.

Florida State broke things open in the fifth. Hayley Griggs started the rally with a double to right field, followed by a bunt single from Torres. After Beachum reached on a fielder’s choice, Danley delivered the biggest swing of the day, driving a ball to center field to bring home two runs and extend the lead.

The offense kept rolling as Marin Heller added a triple to right field, her fourth of the season, and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Griggs to cap the inning.
