Mandrell Desir was named a Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America, the organization announced Wednesday.

Where he and his twin, Darryll Desir, play in 2026 remains to be seen. They have declared their intentions to enter the transfer portal, and Mandrell Desir is viewed as one of the best available transfer prospects. A visit to Ohio State has been reported by national media, one that could happen as early as Thursday when the NCAA-mandated dead period is lifted (no visits took place Monday - Wednesday as coaches are attending the AFCA convention).

Desir’s 2025 season was one of the more remarkable and unexpected performances by a Florida State true freshman. He played in all 12 games and had 30 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

His sacks and tackles for loss totals both led all ACC freshmen, and his sacks total was the third-highest for a freshman in FSU history.

Samuel Singleton was a freshman All-American kick returner in 2024.

Desir is Florida State’s 16th FWAA Freshman All-American since the organization began naming an All-American team exclusively for freshmen in 2001. He joins Timmy Jernigan and Brian Burns as FSU defensive linemen to earn Freshman All-America accolades from the FWAA.

Desir was also named a True Freshman All-American by both On3 and 247Sports and earned honorable mention All-ACC honors.
