Florida State picked up a commitment from three-star receiver Joshua Burrell on Friday evening.

The 6-foot-2, 208-pound Burrell chose FSU over a few dozen offers, including Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Louisville, North Carolina State, Syracuse and Virginia. 247Sports also has the rising senior ranked as the third-best overall prospect in South Carolina and the 75th-best wide receiver prospect in the class of 2021. Burrell told The State in Columbia, S.C., that he plans to enroll at FSU in January.

Burrell, who is from Blythewood, S.C., is the eighth FSU commitment from the class of 2021 and the first receiver. He had 57 catches for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2019 as a junior.

Looking at Burrell’s highlights, he is a physical receiver: He uses his frame to fight for passes and goes up for the ball well.

Burrell joins quarterback Luke Altmyer and center Jake Slaughter among the FSU offense’s 2021 commitments.

I read he’s got real sticky hands and now he is now molding clay in Coach Dugans’ hands.

Physically, he reminds you of Ron Dugans. His workout video makes me think he can become what Ron became. From the little video I’ve seen he does appear to be physical, is a sticky blocker and extends his hands to catch the ball.
How committed he is to success at this level will determine his future. When Dugans came out of FAMU High, he made a commitment to development at a higher level. Being around Peter Warrick and that bunch enabled him to fulfill his potential and that’s what enabled him to be the Ron Dugans we all admire. Very optimistic Dugans the coach can help this kid do the same.
