Florida State administrators named Mike Martin Jr. as baseball coach on Friday afternoon. He was formally introduced to the media on Monday afternoon and a meet-and-greet event followed later.
During his opening statement, he said: “I am Mike Martin Jr. I am not Mike Martin Sr. There will never be another Mike Martin Sr. Nobody will do it as long or as well as he did. We’re going to go at it hard. We’re going to do things the right way. The core principles of this program and this university will stay the same. We’re going to treat people the right way. We’re going to work hard. We’re not going to berate guys. We’re going to do it right.”
Martin Jr. said some things would be done differently, as the Seminoles will move to the third-base dugout. Also, names will not be on the back of jerseys.
And then there’s this: “I don’t want another pitch taken on the inner third of the plate,” Martin Jr. said. “I don’t want another one taken.”
