Wake routs cold-shooting FSU

Florida State had one of its worst halves of the season and Wake Forest pounced, going on a 17-0 run.

Guard Jake LaRavia had 22 points while Khadim Sy had 16 points and a season-high 10 rebounds as Wake Forest routed FSU 76-54 on Tuesday night in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Demon Deacons led 35-22 at the half and never looked back.

Matthew Cleveland scored 13 points and Caleb Mills added 10 second-half points for FSU (7-5, 1-2 ACC), which had its worst shooting night of the season. The Seminoles shot a season-low 24.2 percent from the floor and 16 percent from 3-point range.

One bright spot: Mills went 6 for 6 as FSU made 80 percent of its shots from the free-throw line.

But FSU was soundly beaten. Wake (12-3, 2-2) outrebounded the Seminoles 53-30 and shot 45.5 percent from the floor.

Malik Osborne added six points on 2 of 8 shooting with eight rebounds. Mills had 10 points but struggled throughout the first half and shot just 2 of 13 from the floor. Anthony Polite (1 of 8), Cam’Ron Fletcher (2 of 7), RayQuan Evans (3 of 8) and Cleveland (3 of 8) each had off nights.

Wake won despite turning it over 22 times. Matthew Cleveland and Anthony Polite had three steals apiece as the Seminoles had 16 steals.

FSU had won four straight games in the series, including a 92-85 overtime victory in Tallahassee in the 2020-21 season.
