Verse enjoys FSU visit, connecting with staff

Albany transfer DE Jared Verse has seen a surge in his recruitment since entering the transfer portal a couple of weeks ago. The former Great Dane standout has quickly earned 24 offers, including FSU, Miami, USC, Tennessee, and Iowa. Verse has used four of his five official visits to Houston and Syracuse before stopping at Florida State last Friday and Tennessee last Saturday.

“The coaches were amazing,” said Verse about each of his visits. “Every coach I’ve talked to knows exactly what they’re talking about and how to elevate my game. Every facility was amazing. They were all different but all amazing in all ways.”

What stood out most on the FSU visit in particular?

“It was the coaching staff,” said Verse. “Just sitting down with them. But what impressed me the most, to take away from the coaches because every school has amazing coaches, was Jermaine (Johnson) and Pop (Keir Thomas). Those are two guys that were in my exact situation, and I got to sit down and talk with both of them, and they opened my eyes.”

Verse expanded on the time spent with the former transfer duo.

“They talked about their transitions from Georgia and South Carolina, talking about their transition to coming here and elevating their game,” said Verse.

Defensive ends coach John Papuchis visited Verse in-home over a week ago and shares the closest relationship with Verse among the FSU staff. They were able to reconnect in-person once again during Verse’s time on campus.

“(Papuchis) did come out here to visit me for a little bit but getting back to Florida State and sitting down with him and everything. We got to sit down and watch a little bit of film, watch how they’d use me and my skill set, what position I would be playing, because Jermaine and Pop are both leaving.”

Verse noted that he is being recruited at either defensive end spot.

He does not have a timeline for making an announcement.

“I’m not quite sure,” Verse said. “Whenever I feel confident in my decision, that’s when I’ll make it. For the next couple of days, I’m just going to sit down and think. I’ll talk to my family and get my people’s input on it.”

Verse said he does not have any other visits planned as of now but is not closing the door on the potential for another visit before making his college decision.
