Sedrick Irvin Jr., from Miami (Fla.) Gulliver Prep, is one of the most highly sought after running back prospects in the class of 2023. The rising junior has offers from just about every name program in the country including Florida State.
That list also includes Georgia, Florida, Miami, Michigan and Oregon. However, several programs have begun to stand out to the 5-foot-10 and 180-pound Irvin, who is considered a four-star prospect and ranked as the 8th-best running back in his recruiting class.
Along with FSU, Irvin Jr. indicated that Notre Dame, Stanford, Michigan State, Penn State and Northwestern have made the biggest impression on him at this stage in his recruiting process.
“They have just been reaching out a lot, so it feels good knowing they want me,” said Irvin Jr., of his recruitment and interaction with the Florida State staff.
Irvin Jr., is the the son of former Michigan State and NFL running back Sedrick Irvin, who is an assistant coach at Gulliver Prep. As a sophomore last fall, Irvin Jr. ran 81 times for 552 yards and six rushing touchdowns.
The younger Irvin considers his strengths as a player to be his shiftiness and his ability to catch the ball coming out of the backfield. He also understands that he has a lot that he can improve on as he moves into his junior season.
“During the off-season, I want to gain weight and work on my route running along with quickness and agility,” said Irvin Jr.
Irvin Jr., has also scheduled unofficial visits to both Notre Dame and Stanford later this summer. He also plans to attend the FSU-Notre Dame game in Tallahassee on Sept. 5.
Irvin Jr., also told the Osceola that he will have a better idea of who the true leaders are in his recruitment once he begins to get on the campuses of the schools he is giving strong consideration to.
