Three Florida State players earned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honors Monday after leading Florida State to a 31-13 victory over NC State on Saturday evening. Quarterback Alex Hornibrook, defensive back Cyrus Fagan and edge defender Amari Gainer each earned their first career weekly ACC honors.
Hornibrook threw for a career-high 316 yards on 29-of-40 passing and three touchdowns to earn ACC Quarterback of the Week. A graduate transfer from Wisconsin, Hornibrook had touchdowns of 9, 40 and 43 yards without committing a turnover. Over the past two weeks, Hornibrook has thrown for five touchdowns and 571 yards without a turnover.
Fagan was named the ACC Defensive Back of the Week after a career-high 10 tackles, including eight solo, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup against the Wolfpack. In his fourth start of the season, the junior from Daytona Beach recovered his second career fumble. FSU’s defense has recovered six fumbles on the season, already double its 2018 total of three.
Gainer was the ACC Rookie of the Week. The Tallahassee native made the most of his first career start, finishing with nine tackles, 2.0 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss against NC State. Gainer also forced a fumble on NC State’s final drive at the goal line to prevent a Wolfpack touchdown. Gainer accounted for both of Florida State’s sacks Saturday night.
