Kathryn Sandercock made quick work of NC State, tossing a two-hitter as the Florida State softball team took a 2-0 victory in an ACC Tournament quarterfinal on Thursday night.
Sandercock (22-1) gave up two hits and a walk, striking out five and facing 24 hitters. She did not allow a runner to get to third in what was her sixth complete game of the year.
Devyn Flaherty hit a solo home run to right-center field in the second inning, while Elizabeth Mason had a sac fly in the sixth, scoring Sydney Sherrill (she reached on a double).
“It is the postseason and you can see a little bit of nerves in the beginning,” FSU coach Lonni Alameda said. “We ran ourselves out of a few situations but to see Devyn get after a big swing and Kalei as a freshman swinging it is really exciting to get that win under our belt. We will have a fresh mind tomorrow and keep playing Florida State softball.”
The Seminoles’ win was the 19th straight in the ACC Tournament.
FSU (39-9-1) will next play the Duke-Louisville winner on Friday. The ACC tournament championship game will be held on Saturday.
NC State fell to 26-25.
