Florida State will hire John Papuchis from Maryland to be the Seminoles’ special teams coordinator and defensive ends coach, according to a report by Yahoo’s Pete Thamel.
Papuchis spent 2019 at Maryland, coaching special teams and inside linebackers, and has previously been at North Carolina (2015-18) and Nebraska (2008-14). He has coordinator experience at both UNC (2017-18) and Nebraska (2012-14).
Mike Norvell has officially hired five of 10 assistant coaches. Here’s a look at Norvell’s staff:
Offensive coordinator – Kenny Dillingham
Wide receivers – Ron Dugans
Deputy head coach – Chris Thomsen (likely an OL coach)
Defensive coordinator – Adam Fuller
Associate head coach / defensive line – Odell Haggins
Linebackers – Chris Marve (reported hire)
Defensive ends / special teams – John Papuchis (reported hire)
It is possible that Norvell could retain Telly Lockette, either as a tight ends coach or running backs coach. Norvell mentioned Lockette, in addition to Dugans and Haggins, for their work in securing 2020 recruits.
